Best Beginner Cruiser Motorcycles from Harley-Davidson

October 25, 2023 Comments Comment

Harley-Davidson designs a range of cruiser motorcycles that are well-suited for riders of all experience levels. However, there are a few models that are well suited for beginner riders due to their low seat heights, manageable power outputs, easy handling and other features. Here is an in depth look at some of the best beginner cruiser motorcycles from Harley-Davidson.

Harley-Davidson Street® 500 or 750 Motorcycles

The Street™ 500 and 750 are two of Harley-Davidson's most beginner-friendly cruiser models – friendly enough that if you sign up for a Harley-Davidson® Riding Academy class, the Street 500 is often the bike you’ll practice on. Both models are lightweight cruisers that are easy to handle, thanks to their low center of gravity. Both motorcycles are equipped with a liquid-cooled, fuel-injected V-twin engine that delivers plenty of power and torque while maintaining good fuel efficiency. The main difference is that the Street 500’s engine offers 494cc and the Street 750’s engine offers 749cc. Both bikes have a low seat height of 25.7 inches that is accommodating for shorter riders. These bikes are a great fit for daily commutes or weekend rides, providing nimble handling and predictable power delivery. The Street 500 and 750 are desirable choices for many beginner cruiser riders wanting to own the iconic brand but also want a manageable motorcycle.

While these aren’t current Harley-Davidson® models, you can browse a variety of used Harley-Davidson Street® 500 motorcycles and used Harley-Davidson Street® 750 motorcycles on the H-D1™ Marketplace.

Harley-Davidson® Nightster® or Nightster® Special Motorcycles

The Harley-Davidson® Nightster®  and Nightster® Special motorcycles are great starter cruiser motorcycle models for several reasons. Both bikes are equipped with a Revolution® Max 975T engine that delivers a powerful and responsive ride. They also both have manageable torque, allowing for smooth acceleration and easy handling. They both have a low seat height of 27.1 in. inches and wide handlebars that helps to provide comfort and stability. What are the main differences between these bikes? The Nightster Special model is about two and a half inches shorter and two inches lighter than the Nightster model. There are also some minor differences in the bike’s tires. The Nightster Special model has some more advanced features like 4 in. color TFT, Bluetooth, ride modes, traction control and tire pressure monitoring. Check with your local dealer if you’d like to learn more about the differences between the two models.

All in all, the Nightster and Nightster Special motorcycles are optimal cruisers for beginners because they offer great maneuverability, making them suitable for city riding, as well as being nimble enough to move around through traffic with confidence. Harley-Davidson® Iron 883™ Motorcycle

The Iron 883™ motorcycle is another popular cruiser motorcycle for beginners. It is a stripped-down, minimalist cruiser that has been a staple in Harley-Davidson's lineup for years. Powered by a 883cc V-twin engine, the Iron 883 motorcycle offers easy-to-manage power and torque with precise handling. Like the Harley-Davidson Street® 500 and 750 motorcycles, it has a low seat height of 25.7 inches, making it accessible for shorter riders. The minimalist design provides a classic look, with its blacked-out styling and bobber-style fenders that create a sleek, aggressive look that is also versatile and fun to ride.

Harley-Davidson® Street Bob® Motorcycle

The Street Bob® is a mid-weight cruiser that is perfect for those looking for an agile and nimble ride. It features a Milwaukee-Eight® 114 V-twin engine, which delivers a smooth and reliable performance, good for riders looking to acquire some highway miles. The low seat height of 25.8 inches makes it comfortable and easy to handle, and its stripped-down design makes it a sleek and modern classic cruiser. It is a great option for those looking for an in-between of lightweight cruiser like the Street™ 500 and Iron 883™ models but still want the raw power that Harley-Davidson is known for.

It has a bigger engine than some introductory motorcycles, featuring a classic air-cooled, 1200cc Evolution® V-twin engine. This motorcycle delivers responsive power, capable of handling touring duties and weekend duties all while providing an easy and exciting ride. It has great handling capabilities due to a low center of gravity, and its comfortable riding posture and seat height of 28 inches make it accessible to many riders. It offers custom options ranging from exhaust systems to handlebars, so you can make it your own while still experiencing the classic Harley-Davidson design and all-around performance.
